New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India has extended the deadline for IPL franchises to submit their player retention lists by two days, moving the cut-off from November 15 to November 17, 2026. The mini-auction itself is unchanged and will still be held in Goa on December 16.

The BCCI informed all ten franchises of the change in a communique sent on Monday, November 2. The reason is a straightforward calendar clash: the original November 15 deadline fell on the same day as the fifth and final one-day international between India and New Zealand, scheduled at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. With players, coaches and franchise officials involved on both fronts, the board has given teams a cleaner administrative day to finalise their lists.

The extension does not change anything else about the road to the auction. Player registration opened on November 2 and will close on November 23. Franchises must complete their retention and release process by Tuesday, November 17, and then have until December 1 to submit the list of players they wish to bid for. The final auction register, including the order of player sets, is expected to be released on December 3, ahead of the auction in Goa on December 16.

That Goa auction carries extra significance. It will be the final mini-auction of the current 2023-27 player regulations cycle, with a mega-auction already confirmed ahead of the 2028 season, and it marks the auction’s return to Indian soil after three consecutive editions held overseas in Saudi Arabia, Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

For fans, the two-day extension means a slightly longer wait before the retention picture becomes clear — which players each franchise keeps, which big names are released into the pool, and how much purse money each team carries into Goa. The retention lists are the first real signal of how teams plan to rebuild, and the released players then form the core of the auction catalogue.

One scheduling wrinkle remains untouched by this change. December 16, the auction day, also features an India fixture, with the second ODI of India’s home series against Sri Lanka scheduled at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium that day. The BCCI has so far given no indication that the auction date will move to accommodate that match, and the December 16 date in Goa stands as announced.

Franchises now have until November 17 to lock in their retained players and submit the official lists to the board. Once those retentions are confirmed, every released player enters the pool available at the Goa auction — and the build-up to the 2027 season begins in earnest.
