Asia Cup 2027: Schedule, Teams, Format and Everything We Know So Far

The Asia Cup is heading back to Bangladesh — and back to 50-over cricket. The 2027 edition, the 18th in the tournament’s history, is scheduled for June 18 to July 4, 2027, and will be played in the One Day International format as the final major continental build-up to the ODI World Cup later that year in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Bangladesh were confirmed as hosts in July 2026, the sixth time the country has staged the tournament after 1988, 2000, 2012, 2014 and 2016. The format follows the tournament’s alternating rhythm: the Asia Cup switches between ODI and T20 depending on which World Cup comes next, so with the 2025 edition played as a T20 tournament, 2027 reverts to 50 overs — the same structure as the 2018 and 2023 ODI editions.

Six teams will take part. Five qualified automatically as the Asian Cricket Council’s full members — hosts Bangladesh and defending champions India among them — and the sixth place went to Nepal, who sealed it on September 12, 2026 by beating the United Arab Emirates by 44 runs in the ACC Men’s Premier Cup final at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur. Opener Aasif Sheikh scored a century in that final, and Nepal’s reward is only their second-ever Asia Cup appearance, after their debut in the 2023 ODI edition.

The format is straightforward and unforgiving. The six teams are divided into two groups of three, with each team playing the other two in its group once. The top two from each group advance to the Super Four, and the top two from the Super Four contest the final — 13 matches in all. For Nepal, it is a rare chance to test themselves against the continent’s best in the format that matters most ahead of a World Cup year; for the established sides, it is the last serious 50-over tournament before the global event.

What is still to come: the ACC has not yet published the full fixture list, the group draw, the venues or any squads. Those announcements will land in the months ahead, and this guide will be updated on the same page when they do — so bookmark it and check back as the road to Bangladesh takes shape.

Note: this guide covers the tournament as a whole and will be updated with fixtures, groups and venues when the ACC announces them.
