Sylhet: Bangladesh have been forced into one change for the second Test against West Indies, naming Amite Hasan as the replacement for Mominul Haque, who has been ruled out after suffering a head injury in the series opener.

Mominul sustained the injury while fielding in West Indies’ first innings of the first Test, falling face-first as he attempted to take a catch off Joshua Bishop at short leg. He was taken off the field immediately, with Jaker Ali coming in as his concussion substitute for the remainder of the match. Under the ICC’s concussion guidelines, a player diagnosed with concussion must observe a mandatory minimum seven-day stand-down period before returning to play, and that rule alone ends Mominul’s hopes of featuring in Sylhet.

Amite Hasan is the only addition to the 15-member squad, and his call-up is a reward for a rapid rise through Bangladesh’s ranks. The batter made his Test debut against Zimbabwe in June this year, and his selection now gives the hosts a like-for-like batting option in the middle order as they look to level a series they trail 0-1 after an eight-wicket defeat in the opener. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto continues to lead the side, with Litton Das, Towhid Hridoy and Mehidy Hasan Miraz among the senior players around him.

There is also better news for Bangladesh on the fitness front. Experienced batter Mushfiqur Rahim has retained his place in the squad despite missing the first Test with a finger injury, having recovered sufficiently to be available for selection in Sylhet. His return would add badly needed experience to a batting line-up that was bowled out for 272 in the first innings of the opener and then collapsed in the second, and his presence behind the stumps or in the slips would be equally valuable in a match Bangladesh must win to avoid a series defeat.

The second Test, starting on November 5 in Sylhet, is the second match of the two-Test series in the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle. West Indies, who ended Bangladesh’s home Test run with their eight-wicket win in the opener, will arrive in Sylhet with momentum and with a series win in their sights, while Bangladesh will be desperate to use home conditions to fight back. For Amite Hasan, the match is a chance to stake a longer-term claim; for Mominul, the wait for a return will be governed strictly by the concussion protocols, with no shortcuts available.

Bangladesh squad for the second Test: Najmul Hossain Shanto (captain), Shadman Islam, Tanzid Hasan, Towhid Hridoy, Litton Das, Jaker Ali, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nayeem Hasan, Hasan Mahmud, Taijul Islam, Shoriful Islam, Mushfiqur Rahim, Taskin Ahmed, Ebadot Hossain, Amite Hasan.
